Smith Landscape
The Smith Residence shows how a very steeply sloped back yard can become its greatest asset. Erosion and the sloped terrain were major issues. The design starts by dealing with the rain water at the top of the hill: the water coming from the downspouts. Rain barrels capture the water, and with the help of gravity, will water the planting beds near the house. Though the whole yard couldn’t be made level, proposed terraces create level ground and allow easier access around the house. The place where erosion occurred at the bottom of the slope is now a focal point as a dry creek bed. The rocks are ornamental when it is dry and when it rains it slows the water down. The creek stone and surrounding landscape plants were designed in detail and installed by Boone Gardiner Nursery.
This is a 3D view of the conceptual design.
